Available Summer Positions
CAMP COUNSELOR
The heart of camp! Counselors supervise and support campers throughout the day—leading and assisting activities, building friendships, guiding group routines, and helping create a safe, fun environment. If you love hands-on engagement and high-energy days, this is the role for you.
PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Our activity experts! Specialists lead specific program areas such as sports, arts and crafts, science, nature, high ropes or aquatics. You’ll teach skills, create activity plans and inspire campers to try something new.
PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Our organized, calm-in-the-chaos problem solvers. Program Coordinators help sessions run smoothly — managing schedules, supporting staff, ensuring supplies are available and stepping in to assist with behavior challenges and transitions.
ENRICHMENT TEACHER (MORNING ENRICHMENT CAMPS)
Lead a themed morning program in Arts, Innovation, Recreation Sports, Outdoor Adventure, Academics or RPG. Perfect for instructors, creatives and specialists who are passionate about sharing their skills with kids. (Option to remain for afternoons.)
LIFEGUARD
Lifeguards maintain a safe and fun aquatic environment—actively supervising swim times, enforcing pool rules, conducting safety checks and responding quickly to any water-related emergencies. You’ll help build camper confidence in the water, keeping sessions running smoothly and assist in other activities as needed. Applicants must hold current Lifeguard Certification.
CHALLENGE COURSE SPECIALIST
Our adventure leaders! Challenge Course Specialists guide campers through high and low ropes elements, climbing activities and team-building challenges. You’ll encourage kids to step outside their comfort zones, develop confidence and support one another—all while maintaining the highest safety standards. Perfect for those who love outdoor adventure, positive coaching and helping campers discover what they’re capable of.
CAMP NURSE
Our calm, caring health champion! Camp Nurses oversee camper and staff well-being — providing first aid, managing daily medications, responding to injuries or illnesses, and keeping clear communication with families and leadership. You’ll help campers feel safe and supported so they can enjoy every moment of camp. Applicants must hold current nursing licensure (RN, LPN/LVN, or equivalent). Ideal for medical professionals who combine excellent clinical judgment with a warm, kid-friendly presence.
Dates & Schedule
Staff Training: June 15–19
All staff participate in a mandatory pre-camp training week to prepare for programs, safety procedures and team-building. Enrichment Teacher’s commitment may vary depending on the specific program(s) they lead.
Camp Season: June 22–August 21
Most positions require a full-summer commitment to ensure consistency for campers and teams. Enrichment Teachers commitment may vary depending on the specific program(s) they lead.
Working Hours
Working hours vary by role, but most staff can expect to work 8:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute break during the day. Some positions may have different schedules based on program needs.

What are the eligibility and age requirements for working at Summer@WMA?
To be eligible for employment at Summer@WMA, applicants must:
Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States upon hire.
Be 16 years of age or older by the start of employment.
If 18 years of age or older, successfully pass a CORI background check (and any other screenings required by state regulations).
Be able to perform the essential functions of their position. Camp roles typically involve:
- Actively supervising children in indoor and outdoor environments
- Participating in or facilitating recreational activities
- Moving safely around camp facilities (e.g., fields, trails, pool areas)
- Remaining attentive and engaged throughout the program day
Position-specific certifications — such as Lifeguard Certification, nursing licensure or challenge course training — must be current and verified prior to the start of camp.
What is a typical day like at Summer@WMA?
Summer@WMA programs run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Staff members arrive at 8:15 a.m., and may leave after the campers depart at the end of the day. Most mornings begin with a staff meeting and/or preparations for arrival.
As a staff member in any program, you will be involved with your campers and their activities throughout the day, including lunch.
At the end of each day, staff assist with dismissal and pickup or other assigned duties to facilitate preparations for the next day of camp.
Do I need to bring lunch?
Summer@WMA staff in all programs will receive a complimentary lunch. While the menu is designed primarily with children in mind, there are plenty of options for adults. We ask that staff do not bring food or drink from outside of camp. Staff are expected to sit with and supervise campers during lunch.
What is the compensation for staff working at Summer@WMA?
Pay rates vary by position, experience, and certification level. Camp Counselors start at $600 per week, with higher rates available for specialized roles, leadership positions and staff with advanced training or credentials. All staff receive competitive compensation along with the priceless benefits of community, professional growth and an unforgettable summer experience.
Is there a discount for children of summer staff?
Yes. Summer staff members may enroll their dependent children for any of the Summer@WMA programs (pending eligibility and availability) at a significant discount during the sessions they are employed.

What is the cell phone policy for staff at camp?
Summer@WMA is a phone-free work environment. We provide alternative communication devices for each camper group and at various camp locations to facilitate communication as needed. Personal cell phones may be used during officially assigned breaks.
Is it possible to take time off during the summer?
Camps are legally required to maintain a specific ratio of staff to campers. When staff need to miss all or part of a day, it can jeopardize our compliance. We ask that staff plan ahead and schedule appointments, events, errands, etc., for outside of camp hours. Should the need arise to take time away from camp on a particular day, staff must submit a request at least 48 hours in advance. Even with advance notice, we cannot guarantee that your request will be granted.
